Safari Kudu itinerary

DAY 1

Arrival at the airport and transfer

Arrival at Kilimanjaro and transportation to Arusha

The first stop of Safari Kudu is the arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport, one of the most famous places in Africa and the world, where you will be welcomed by the staff of Safari Avventura. Our guide will let you experience the warmth of Tanzania from the very start, with a festive welcome. After a short briefing and light refreshment of local specialties, you can choose to either move to your lodge or stay in the company of our staff, who will accompany you on a visit to the city of Arusha, who you will truly enter the heart of Africa.

Dinner and overnight stay will be at the lodge, a genuinely romantic and evocative location, from which you will hope to never leave.

DAY 2

Visit Arusha park

Nature Walk in Arusha National Park

A beautiful day of safari awaits us after breakfast in the Arusha National Park, considered one of the most beautiful wildlife shelters in the country, and very varied in landscape. The entire park is full of life forms. You can see herds of buffaloes (the most common species in the park), zebras and giraffes, and it is not uncommon to spot warthogs, water antelopes, dik-diks and reduncas. The area also has other mammals that are difficult to get close to, such as aardvarks, bush pigs and crested porcupines. The low screeching call of the silver cheeked hornbill regularly penetrates silence, just like the rhythmic harsh cry of the black and white colobus, an endangered primate.

Accompanied by a ranger, you will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the pristine nature of the park by taking a walk during which numerous animals can be seen, such as giraffes, buffaloes and so on. All of these in maximum safety, of course.

We will leave for the park early in the morning and return to the lodge by 18:00.
Packed lunch will be served at the park.
Dinner and overnight accommodation at the lodge.

DAY 3

Visit Tarangire Park

Tarangire National Park

After breakfast, we head to the Tarangire National Park for a fascinating game drive. Here, the swaying sylvan savannah, dotted with majestic baobabs, many of which are over 2,000 years old, is home to the largest elephant population in northern Tanzania. And the observation of the animals is absolutely amazing when the dust blows over the dry plains. The park is home to the highest density of wildlife on the continent in the height of the dry season.

We will leave for the park early in the morning and return to the lodge by 18:00.
Packed lunch will be served at the park.
Dinner and overnight accommodation at the lodge.

DAY 4

Visit Lake Eyasi

Lake Eyasi

We will visit Lake Eyasi, south-east of the Ngorongoro highlands, after breakfast. The surrounding region is home to a very interesting group of people: the Hadzabe-bushmen, last heirs of a civilization that knows nothing about agriculture, cattle breeding, ceramics and metallurgy. They live off hunting with bows and arrows and collecting berries and wild fruits. They are the last heirs of the homines-sapientes who left their mark here, along the Rift Valley, some 200,000 years ago. Their way of life has remained unchanged for millennia, living in small wandering groups of about twenty individuals. Meeting them is a very interesting experience. You can organize an early-morning hunting trip with them and experience an ancient way of life for a few hours. This is a real experience, not faked or staged for touristic purposes. The region is also home to the Datogas, polygamous breeders from the Horn of Africa, who came to the region with their herds in search of pastures. We will then visit a village and a blacksmith’s workshop that produces everyday objects using ancient techniques; jewellery and arrowheads for the nearby Hadzabe, who pay for them with animal skins and wild honey. A very small proportion of safari travellers in Tanzania visit this region, but those who do return very thrilled.

We will leave for the park early in the morning and return to the lodge by 18:00.
Packed lunch will be served at the park.
Dinner and overnight accommodation at the lodge.

DAY 5

Ngorongoro crater

Visit to the enchanting Ngorongoro Crater

After breakfast, we will head to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, one of the most famous safari sites in the world, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1978 and the International Biosphere Reserve in 1981. The Ngorongoro Crater (the permit for game drives inside the Crater is valid for up to 6 hours) is the area of greatest interest, located at 2,200 meters above sea level, it is the largest uninterrupted caldera in the world, and one of the natural wonders of Africa with the presence of about 30,000 large mammals living there all year round, such as buffaloes, lions, elephants, cheetahs and rhinos, and several bird varieties such as flamingos, eagles, buzzards, ostriches and hawks. The centre of the crater is occupied by Lake Magadi, with its shallow waters that tend to almost dry up during the dry season, and is the best the best spot from which to observe flocks of flamingos and crowned cranes, as well as plenty of herbivores, especially the wildebeests and zebras who drink here, attracting the presence of lions and hyenas.

We leave for the park early in the morning and then move to the Serengeti in the afternoon.
Packed lunch will be served at the park.
Dinner and overnight accommodation at the lodge or Campo Tendato.

DAY 6

Animals in the Serengeti park

The Serengeti National Park

We visit the Serengeti National Park after breakfast, this extraordinary place where legend meets reality is the oldest and largest park in Tanzania, covering an area of 14,763 square kilometres, hence its name of Masai origin, Siringet, meaning “Plain without borders”. Awaiting you are endless plains, the great migration of herbivores, especially wildebeests and zebras, herds of lions and other predators such as hyenas, cheetahs, leopards, jackals, crocodiles…

We leave for the park early in the morning and return by 18:00.
Packed lunch will be served at the park.
Dinner and overnight accommodation at the tented camp.

DAY 7

Fauna Serengeti National Park

Experience the Fauna of the Serengeti

We will continue our discovery of the extraordinary Serengeti National Park after breakfast. The boundless prairies are occasionally interrupted by bizarre granite formations; the kopjes, among whose cracks often form small pools of rainwater, attracting many small animals, but also large predators such as lions who love to lie on them or hideaway waiting for the passing of a possible prey. Along the rivers are many trails where you can see crocodiles, hippos and many other animals that come to drink, including leopards that often bask in the branches of the umbrella acacias present here.

Packed lunch will be served at the park.
We move to Lake Natron in the evening.
Dinner and overnight accommodation at the lodge.

DAY 8

Visit Lake Natron

Lake Natron

Lake Natron, with its nearby Ol Doinyo Lengai volcano ‘Mountain of God’, sacred to the Masai, is a pristine, rugged and particularly fascinating place, allowing for excursions off the beaten track, which can be visited from late June to early January.

It is a 60 km long alkaline lake, located north-east of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, characterized by hues ranging from white to pink and brown, depending on the time of year. Its size, as well as its colour, vary a lot throughout the year, and its waters withdraw so much during the dry season that they leave large areas of land covered with a thick salt crust exposed. The excessive salinity of the lake makes it impossible for most animal species to live around it, with the exception of the pink flamingos that nest here and live in huge flocks. The visit will take place on foot, beginning with the lake. This will be followed by an excursion to the enchanting waterfalls, going up a stretch of river from its fresh and pure waters, with the possibility of taking a pleasant bath under the waterfalls (it is recommended to wear shoes and the right attire).

We leave for the park early in the morning and return to the lodge by 18:00.
Packed lunch will be served at the park.
We will move to Mtowambu in the afternoon.
Dinner and overnight accommodation at the lodge.

DAY 9

Visit Lake Manyara National Park

Lake Manyara

The safari continues after breakfast with a tour of the Lake Manyara National Park, one of Tanzania’s most biodiverse parks. Covering an area of only 330 square kilometres, 230 of which are occupied by the lake, you will encounter five different ecosystems here. The park is home to over 380 different bird species and a large number of animals, including elephants, buffaloes, zebras, giraffes, leopards, lions, baboons, hippos, antelopes, warthogs and many more.

We leave for the park early in the morning and return by 18:00.
Packed lunch will be served at the park.
We return to Arusha in the evening.
Dinner and overnight accommodation at the lodge.

DAY 10

Visit Kilimanjaro Park

The wonders of Kilimanjaro Park

Kilimanjaro National Park was founded in 1997 and declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987.

Its reputation is obviously due to the spectacular Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa, as well as being one of the highest volcanoes in the world, with the top covered by a perennial glacier.

The main entrance to the park is the Marangu Gate, which is located at an altitude of 1870m. This is the lowest part of the plateau, which can be reached by jeep, and offers beautiful views. We will then reach the “Roof of Africa”, where there is a lush rainforest dominated by tall trees, harbouring various animals such as buffaloes, baboons, guenons, leopards and antelopes, and numerous birds, including abbot’s starlings, which are very rare outside this area. You can also visit the nearby and picturesque lake Chala, which stands in a caldera, on the eastern border of Mount Kilimanjaro, with shades ranging from turquoise to emerald green depending on the season.

We leave for the park early in the morning and return to the lodge by 18:00.
Packed lunch will be served at the park.
Dinner and overnight accommodation at the lodge.

DAY 11

Visit Arusha market

Tour of Arusha and return home

We have come to the end of this wonderful journey that you will forever carry in your heart. Today we return home, but there is just enough time for one last tour of Arusha and some shopping to buy souvenirs and gifts for friends who were not lucky enough to take part in this unforgettable safari in Tanzania. Should you want to stay longer in Tanzania, you can buy the sea extension with its paradisiacal beaches of Zanzibar, Pemba and Mafia. In any case, there will be a Safari Avventura staff with you until your departure from Kilimanjaro airport.
